Kaikoura
Well I am in Kaikoura, which a great little coastal town just north of Christchurch. I got a ride up here with some people that I met in Christchurch- I am not getting too much use out of that bus pass that I bought! The first night we spent the night in tents along the beach, and it was great. We had a decent sized bonfire, and got to listen to the waves hit the beach. It was so peaceful- until the first train went by- seems that we sent up our tents VERY close to the train tracks!!! It wasn't so bad, and I only recall one train going by! I got a ride back into town, and checked into a hostel for a couple days. Yesterday I didn't do much, and that was fine with me! Today I rented a bike- that's right, I rented a bicycle! I bikes for about 30-40 minutes out to a seal colony and got pretty close to some lazy seals. After a while of walking around and a short trek up to the view point, I decided to head home. That's when me and the bike had issues- it was making my butt really sore, and I was not impressed! All in all it was a great experience; this in no way means that I will be joining a bike relay or anything!! Now I am just checking my email, still trying to figure the best way to buy my spinning wheel, and make plans for the next few weeks. On that note I am off!

Hey dude!
Glad you got to check out Kaikoura! I really liked that little toen (also stayed on that beach by the train track!:) ).
Sorry you had issues with your bike... I thought for a second you'd be biking all over Whitehorse next summer!!
Anyways, if you come back towards Taupo, you should check out the Tongariro Crossing... pretty cool hike! Just did it today!
Alright, have fun on the south island!!
Gen :)
