travelling south

Well, I am now out of Auckland-
I was supposed to have been at my first farm, and would have been had I not gone out until 6am Saturday night and missed my 7:30 bus! Ooh well, I made it the next day, and looking back now, I don't think, even had I made it to my Sunday bus, that I would have had fun, as I was dreadfully sick!
So my first day out we headed to Rotorua. En route, we stopped at the glow worm caves, which reminded me of what it looks like to fly over a city, though in the caves you are looking up. After walking through limestone caves, we got into a boat (which is where you see the glow worms) and we were told not to stick out hands out of the boats. I, not liking to be told what to do, thought that it wasn't that outrageous to dip a finger in the water to test the temperature- well, that was until I heard what I thought was a fish jump- we were all corrected of that notion and learned it was an eel- you better believe that I did NOT dip my finger in the water after that!
Prior to the caves a group of us went for a hike through some pastures, even getting a chance to scare up some cows- thanks to Susan and Wendy, I was the smart one who knew that just because a cow has horns, it isn't necessarily a bull- yes I know, it's simple, but I like it!
I have learned from these last two days on the bus that as soon as I sit down, I get tired. We can be on the bus for minutes and I am already asleep. While this is good in the sense that it elevates all chances of motion sickness, I also end up missing a lots of the scenery.
what I have seen of it though has been wonderful, much of what I expected- soft green rolling hills with scatterings of trees everywhere- there are no real clear cut fields, and with such a variety of trees, its makes every field, every hill, unique.
Today we headed to Taupo, which is this cute little town located alongside of a lake that has formed from a volcano crater. It is a fresh water lake, and has a stunning color. We watched some crazy folk bungy jump, and with each person I realized more and more that I will never do it!
So now I am walking around the town, looking for a cheap place to use the Internet, though I should head back to my hostel (Burkes backpackers- nice huh Mom?!) and get dressed. I am meeting a couple of people from my bus for dinner- there's a special for dinner and 3 pints for $20- let's hope there isn't a repeat bus miss due to drunken stupor again tomorrow- wish me luck!

We have been busy in the house with renovations thanks to your mom and dad's help. Couldn't have done it without them. Sounds like you are having QUITE a bit of fun. We look forward to hearing about your farm posting. Cheers for now.
